Sunday 3rd February 2008
League (Away at Old Leamingtonians)

The Old Saltleians Girls Tag Rugby Team formed at the beginning of the season, and currently we have recruited girls ranging from 8-16 years old.
Sunday 3rd February marked the tag teams first of many tag tournaments which was hosted at Old Leamingtonians, and affiliated to the West Midlands Girls Tag League 2007-8. The day was bitter cold and windy but this did not phase the girls they carried on in true Salts style.
The girls did well scoring a number of tries against a strong and well drilled opposition, who had numerous years experience as a team. The dedication the girls showed was remarkable, everyone put in a 100% effort including the Coaches and Manager. Every one enjoyed the day and we are looking forward to our next tournament at Bournville on 16th March.
Presently the girls train on Sundays and during the Summer we will be training on Tuesday nights too. The coaching team consists of one female manager and two male coaches, the manager helps with the coaching too. All coaches and manager have been CRB checked. Two members have done the Tag Rugby Start course and also the start Rugby course, for the future the next step hopefully will be the level one course.
Sucessful links have been made with Bournville, we went over to their grounds in December we had a training session with them followed by a match. We have invited them to Old Salts for another friendly on the 24th Feb.
Following our first tournament links have also been made with Yardley and District who wish to have regular training sessions with us at either ground.
Currently the manager is researching the idea of a girls tour next year, beach tag rugby looks very interesting, but nothing has been set in stone as yet.

Bournville (Away)
Score
Sunday 2nd December marked the occasion of the first match for the Old Saltleians girls tag rugby team.  After 7 Weeks of training, all the girls performed incredibly with lots of enthusiasm and team spirit. The Session started with combined training, conducted by our hosts Bourneville, to introduce the girls and pair them up for drills, so the Bourneville girls could pass on their many years of knowledge. After the initial training session, Old Salts Girls played Bourneville Girls in a very exciting match. Although Bourneville beat us marginally, the girls held their heads up high and the appalling weather did not faze them, if anything, I would say the mud and rain added to the girl's excitement.
A lot was learnt at this session, i.e. Speed, (Bourneville can move fast) agility and above all, to work as a team. The Bourneville girls have played as a team for many years, but this did not stop them giving our girls advice & support on the field, which was great to see.
After the match, the older girls mixed together to challenge the coaches and younger ones to another game, this was an interesting challenge which resulted in some splashing in the mud by some adults.
We plan to return the hospitality and host a match at Old Saltleians early in the New Year, please come and support.

Well done Girls

The next stage for the team is to join the Midland League; this will help with further development, and gain experience of other clubs.
