Your Start to coaching - questions answered
'How do I start (on a coaching pathway)?' - depends on the person’s previous playing or teaching experience but the pathway is outlined on <http://www.community-rugby.com/communityrugby/index.cfm/Fuseaction/Home.Minor/StoryTypeId/102/SectionId/647.cfm> along with descriptions of all the courses.
'Who do I contact to be registered or checked by the RFU child protection system?' - first point of call should be your Club Welfare Officer which you should have in place, failing this then Judith Phelps as the North Mids Welfare Manager can be easily contacted.
'How can I get an approved Tag Coach qualification?' - Ken Wirepa will know how but you can either access a pre-arranged course that I send details of to you and Ken or if you have sufficient numbers then we can arrange one at Old Salts.
'Where is the training matrix that shows the required/recommended support skill courses that a new coach can be guided with?' - see the weblink above
'Where can we find Girls Rugby contacts such as mixed age Tag?' - do you mean other clubs with girl’s teams? If so then ask me or the RFUW contact for the region claireantcliffe@rfu.com <mailto:claireantcliffe@rfu.com>
'How do I set up a simple structured coaching program for my U-12 to progress to XV man rugby' - there is no hard and fast rules for this type of question as every club, squad and player is vastly different. Many ideas can be found on the web or rfu.com but there is no “off the shelf” program that can be used
'What do I need in my 1st Aid bag?' - no rules for this but a simple first aid kit for coaches would be sufficient (you can buy a basic first aid kit with equipment relatively cheaply)
'Do I need a 1st Aid course before I can apply for level one?' - No.
'I do not understand a lot of the acronyms the RFU use and some coaches use in senior club presentations, leaves me confused. I have attached our acronym sheet but please feel free to ask for any further clarification.
Obviously we use our CCC as the contact for coaching courses but the requirement from the guys is for a clear pathway to be advised by the RFU with level connected by skill courses links. - all the course descriptions are on the weblink mentioned earlier. They include the duration of the courses as well as what they involve
